KUNDALINI YOGA CULT HARM REDUCTION
Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan® is known to cause harm when practiced and taught by cult leaders, including students of Yogi Bhajan who perpetuate his abusive cult behaviors. It is crucial for students and teachers to be aware of the accusations against Yogi Bhajan, including the investigative report from The Olive Branch and the experiences of abuse survivors (detailed in the resources below).
Not all Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan® students and teachers perpetuate the cult mindset, and students and teachers must rigorously discern and self-examine behavior for cult mindset patterns.

KUNDALINI YOGA CULT HARM REDUCTION PRINCIPLES
Accepts, for better or worse, that an abusive cult mindset is part of the Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan® world and chooses to work to minimize its harmful effects rather than simply ignore or condemn them.
Understands the abusive cult mindset as a complex, multi-faceted phenomenon that encompasses a continuum of behaviors from severe use to total abstinence, and acknowledges that some ways of practicing and teaching Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan® are clearly safer than others.
Establishes quality of individual and community life and well-being — not necessarily cessation of all Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan® practice — as the criteria for successful interventions and policies.
Calls for the non-judgmental, non-coercive provision of services and resources to people who participate in the abusive cult mindset and the communities in which they live in order to assist them in reducing student harm.
Ensures that people who practice Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan® and those with a history of cult abuse routinely have a real voice in the creation of programs and policies designed to serve them.
Affirms people who practice Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan® themselves as the primary agents of reducing the harms of their practice and seeks to empower students to share information and support each other in strategies which meet their actual conditions of practice.
Recognizes that the realities of poverty, class, racism, social isolation, past trauma, sex-based discrimination, and other social inequalities affect both people’s vulnerability to and capacity for effectively dealing with cult-related harms and abuses.
Does not attempt to minimize or ignore the real and tragic harm and danger that can be associated with Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan® practice.
These principles are modeled after https://harmreduction.org/about-us/principles-of-harm-reduction/ for drug use, as an abusive cult mindset can function as a drug.
